Who has never been facing the problem of being really interested into the ingredients of a food item and after searching the internet got lead to a page which was too confusing and did not have an appealing design? Since this has happened to most of our team members already, we wanted to change this and therefore the concept of foodMesh was born. As a first step towards this project we firstly collected facts about the positive and negative aspects of other food comparing sites. Mostly there was the drawback that too much information is displayed in an unclear way with even a lot of ingredients the user is not interested in. Based on this evaluation facts we started to create our website whereas MMA created an appealing design and MMT assured the functionality behind it. An interesting fact about the technically background of this application is the requirement of food data from three different APIs. From a functional point of view the user starts on the front page and types in his favored food item. This can take place with eight different languages the user can select from a drop-down menu in the search field. If the site visitor presses the search button he gets a lot of different search results. Is he interested in a special food item the user can click on the ‘compare button’ and his chosen object occurs in the ‘compare basket’. Within the next step the user can choose between ‘compare items’ where a line chart is drawn form the different items in the basket and ‘go to element’. With the latter option the food item is displayed in an pie chart that dissects the different ingredients in diversely chart pieces. With every of the two line chart a hover function is implemented that shows the affected part of the chart if the user hovers over the item located in the basked. Is the user interested in his personal daily requirements of nutrients he can insert his weight, height and age from which the amount of nutritions gets calculated. After this specifications the charts are displayed according to his individual needs.
