“Common Ground” was developed during the Social Hackathon of March 2020.
With the aim of creating a project that could help connecting migrants and Austrians, we developed a concept for cultural exchange through food. It includes a mobile app / website where people can share their favourite recipes from their culture as well as cooking get-togethers in community-oriented events in the public space.
The app is supposed to be as accessible as possible, so the interface should be available in many different language options. To ease understanding of the recipes between people who don’t have any languages in common yet, there is also the possibility to upload a video instead of a written recipe, so that other users can see the steps themselves.
The layout of the kitchen used for the public cooking events: The kitchen parts are built into a container. This allows an easy transportation of the kitchen. Whenever a cooking even is taking place, the kitchen is then moved to the desired destination and picnic tables can be set up to give people the possibility to join the meal. When the container is opened and placed, you can find boxes with caster wheels under them which enable movement of the boxes. The boxes can then be rolled on the surface of the folding door. The top of the box then serves as kitchen table. The modular parts of the kitchen are made from robust materials and the construction of the kitchen is rather simple to make the replacement of broken parts easier. In the container you can find storage possibilities as well as an oven with a stove and a sink. The furnishing is kept rather simple and there is no fridge since Common Ground is providing fresh ingredients for every event.
Value Proposition: For MIGRANTS who are looking for INTERACTION AND PARTICIPATION IN THE AUSTRIAN CULTURE we have developed A PLATFORM WITH THE POSSIBILITY TO SHARE AND BROADCAST RECIPES FROM THEIR HOME COUNTRY. That helps TO BUILD A COMMUNITY (in the first step) and creates LONG TERM RELATIONSHIPS through playful cooking events in real life (as a second step).
